I have mentioned before that when I get my butt out of bed early and get to the gym I ending up loving it. Today I was reminded just how much I enjoy getting up and doing my cardio in the morning. The Fatkid woke up around 6 and I heard him moving around so got up with him. We headed to the gym and did about 30 minutes of cardio, I would have stayed longer but he had to get home for work. As I was there, doing intervals on the stairmaster, I kept thinking about how much I actually enjoyed it. CRAZY. I KNOW! But hear me out…there are a few reasons why I really do love getting my cardio done in the early morning:
- It is out of the way! For the rest of the day, I know I don’t have to do cardio (which I don’t really like).
- It gives me more energy throughout my day with whatever I am doing, school, work, house stuff.
- I am more productive because I am up early and not laying around in bed until a later hour.
- It sets the tone for the rest of my day! The last thing I am going to do is not eat clean after I got my but out of bed before 7:00am.
There are a million different studies out there about what works best for burning fat: morning or night, breakfast or empty stomach, intervals or slow and steady, etc. Personally I just do what makes me feel good. I don’t usually eat breakfast because I am not hungry immediately when I wake up, but sometimes I will grab half a banana, and usually a cup of coffee. I always fill my water bottle with bcaas. And I usually do intervals on the stairmaster or treadmill on a 15 incline at 3.0-3.5 mph. Nothing too strenuous but just something to get my body moving and ready for the day. I don’t usually lift in the morning because I do much better when I lift in the afternoon – again, that’s just me. I have friends who are ready to go in the weight room at 5:30am – not me.
